Axo and Xolo are listening.
Answers to the things people actually write in about — purchases, downloads, languages, and getting your data back out. If none of it fits, email a human; there is only a small studio behind this app, and we read everything.
Email support
Write in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Italian. We reply as quickly as a small studio can — usually within a few working days.
What to include
These four lines turn most reports into a fix instead of a conversation:
- your device and OS version (for example, iPhone 14, iOS 18.4);
- the Xolingo version shown by the App Store or Google Play, if you can find it;
- your language pair — the language you speak and the one you are learning;
- what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot beats a paragraph.
Please leave out anything personal you would not want in an email thread. For a wrong or offensive sentence, the in-app flag is better than email — it carries the exact context automatically. See Reporting bad content. For purchase help, include the copyable purchase support ID under Settings → Xolingo Pro; for a report follow-up or deletion request, include its reference under Settings → Your report references.
Purchases and Xolingo Pro
I bought Pro but the app still says I’m free
Open Settings → Xolingo Pro → Restore purchases while signed in to the store account you bought with, and with a working connection. Xolingo checks your purchase with the store rather than with an account of its own, so a restore is the fix after a reinstall, a new phone, or a purchase that arrived while the app was offline. If the store is still confirming payment, Pro unlocks by itself once that finishes.
How do I cancel?
On iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Xolingo → Cancel Subscription, or use Apple's subscription page. On Android: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Xolingo → Cancel subscription, or use Google Play's subscription centre. The in-app Customer Center can route you to store management. Uninstalling Xolingo does not cancel. Access normally runs to the end of the paid period, subject to store rules and local law.
Can I get a refund?
For an Apple purchase, use reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple decides and processes App Store refunds. For a Google Play purchase, use Google Play's refund request within 48 hours where eligible. After 48 hours, email us with the GPA order number; we can review and, where appropriate, process a Google Play refund under our policy and applicable law.
Can I switch between monthly and yearly?
Yes. Both plans sit in the same subscription group, so the store handles the change as an upgrade or downgrade and prorates it for you. You do not need to cancel one before starting the other, and you are not charged for both.
Does Pro carry from my iPhone to my Android phone?
No. Xolingo has no account, so an entitlement lives with the store account that bought it. A purchase made on the App Store restores on your Apple devices; a Google Play purchase restores on your Android devices. The same goes for your word bank — it does not sync between devices.
Does one purchase cover all my languages?
Yes. Pro is one unlock across every language Xolingo supports.
The daily saving limit
On the free tier you can open a translation and save five new words or phrases per day, counted across all learning languages and reset by your device's local calendar day. A first lookup of a new item reveals its translation and automatically saves it, using one slot. Reopening vocabulary already saved or mastered costs nothing. Mastering or deleting an entry does not hand a slot back.
On the sixth new item the purchase screen appears. If you buy there, Xolingo completes the translation and save for you. If you close the screen, that new translation is not shown or saved.
Reading, highlighting, read-aloud, and reopening existing vocabulary are never limited. New translations and saves resume on the next local calendar day.
Reading, downloads, and offline use
Does Xolingo work offline?
Mostly, yes, and by design. The bundled courses and core library, your word bank, highlighting, saved word cards, flash cards, and the free Arcade decks (ranks 1–100 and 101–200, Saved sentences, and 201–500 once it has been added) work with no connection. A machine translation needs Google translation to be enabled in Settings and its language model to have downloaded first. Browsing the wider catalog and downloading a new article need a connection.
An article won’t open or looks empty
Its body may not have downloaded or its temporary cached copy may have expired. Browse and link-import article bodies and images are refreshed after about 24 hours, so they may need to be downloaded again. If it still fails, check the connection and try once more. Settings → Downloads & storage shows locally stored content.
Xolingo is taking up a lot of space
Settings → Storage shows what is stored. Clear all downloads removes downloaded article bodies while keeping your cards, saved words, and reading progress — open a card again to re-download its body. Dictionaries and language data are listed separately.
How do I pick the right level?
Every text card shows a CEFR level (A1 through B2+) and how much of it you already know. A text where you know most words is the right kind of hard. You are never locked to a level.
Languages and translations
Changing what you speak or what you’re learning
Both live in Settings → Languages. Changing the language you speak re-renders the interface and the translations immediately. Each language you learn keeps its own word bank, progress, and statistics, so switching between them loses nothing.
A translation looks wrong or says “translated on this device”
If you enable Google translation in Settings, Xolingo can translate missing dictionary entries and phrases on your device. The app first explains model downloads and Google's technical data collection; choosing Not now leaves bundled dictionaries available. Machine translations show Google attribution. You can replace it with your own wording on the word card, and yours is what you will see from then on. If a bundled dictionary entry is wrong, flag it — that is worth fixing for everyone.
Which languages are supported?
English, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Italian — each usable as the language you speak or the one you are learning, in any combination.
Read-aloud
Xolingo speaks with the voices installed on your phone rather than a cloud service, so quality depends on what your device has. In Settings → Read aloud you can preview voices per language, pick one, and set the speed.
If read-aloud is silent: check the ringer or silent switch and the volume, then confirm a voice is installed for that language — on iOS under Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, on Android in your speech engine’s settings. Voices marked as requiring the internet will not work offline; pick one labelled offline if you want speech everywhere.
Importing your own texts
Paste text or import a supported file from the library, or use the system share sheet to send a link or a page into Xolingo. Imports become private texts on your device with the full reader treatment — highlighting, word cards, and progress.
We do not upload or re-host imports, so we cannot recover them if they are deleted. Importing a link contacts its source website. If you deliberately submit a content report about an imported passage, the report can include the displayed excerpt and related context. Please import only material you have the right to keep for private study.
Reporting bad content
Xolingo’s example sentences come from crowd-sourced corpora and machine translation, so some are wrong, awkward, or crude. Tap the flag beside a sentence — on the word card, in a Word Bank entry, or next to an answered cloze question — pick a reason, review the included context, and send.
The report carries the reason, optional comment, sentence, translation shown, word, both languages, source identifiers/title and attribution, and app version, so a reviewer can find it. The structured report deliberately includes no name, app account, device ID, or location field. Netlify, which hosts the endpoint, still receives your IP address and request metadata; an IP address can imply an approximate location. Please do not put personal information in the comment box.
After sending, copy the report reference or find it later in Settings → Your report references. Include it in support emails about a correction or deletion request. The app keeps the latest 100 references and dates, without a second copy of the report content. If the app cannot save your reference, copy it from the success screen before closing.
Your data
Resetting learning data
Settings → Reset learning data erases your word bank, learning progress, and private imported texts, including stored import bodies and old migration copies, and turns off optional Google translation. It keeps the number of free saves already used today, public downloads, purchase status, and report reference numbers. Downloads & storage manages downloaded content separately. Downloaded language models may remain; enable Google translation to manage them, or remove the app to remove its live local data. Platform backups follow Apple or Google's controls. There is no Xolingo account or learner-sync service to close. A content report, support email, or purchase record is separate; see the Privacy Policy.
Getting a new phone
An iCloud or Android device backup may restore some Xolingo data, depending on your platform and backup settings; Xolingo cannot guarantee or inspect that restore. A phone set up as new starts with an empty word bank. An eligible purchase can be recovered through Restore purchases while signed in to the same store account.

Known limits in this version
- Phone-first layouts. Xolingo can run on iPad and Android tablets, but tablet layouts are not yet fully optimized.
- No sync and no account. Learning data stays on one device. This is a deliberate privacy trade-off, and optional accounts are the obvious way we would lift it later.
- Reading and vocabulary, not speaking. There is no speaking practice, writing practice, or explicit grammar course.
- Five languages. English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian, in either role.
- Reading levels are labelled A1 to B2+. The hardest texts are grouped as B2+ rather than claiming a C1 or C2 grading.
