Terms of Use

The agreement between you and AxoLottaLove for the Xolingo app — the rules for using it, how Xolingo Pro is billed and cancelled, what you may bring into the app, and the store terms that ride along with it.

Effective 31 August 2026 Apple Standard EULA applies on iOS Xolingo for iOS & Android

1 · The agreement

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) are a contract between you and AxoLottaLove (“we”, “us”), the maker of the Xolingo mobile app and this website. By downloading, opening, or using Xolingo you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

They apply alongside the Privacy Policy and the terms of the store where you obtained Xolingo. For an App Store download, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement is the licence agreement; these Terms supplement it for Xolingo's service, content, and purchases. If they conflict on an Apple-app licence term, the Standard EULA controls.

If you are not old enough to enter a contract where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms for you. You must have the store account holder's permission before making a purchase.

Xolingo does not have accounts.

You never register, so there is nothing to sign in to and nothing for us to suspend. Your side of this agreement is the app on your device, and your purchase — if you make one — lives with your Apple or Google account.

2 · Your licence

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Xolingo for your own language learning, on devices you own or control, in line with the usage rules of the store you got it from.

You may not: sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the app; copy or mirror its bundled catalogs, dictionaries, or sentence data as a standalone dataset except where an applicable open-source or content licence allows it; reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble it except where that restriction is void under applicable law; remove or obscure attribution or licence notices; or work around the limits on the free tier.

Xolingo, the Xolingo name, the AxoLottaLove name, and the Axo and Xolo mascots are ours. This licence gives you no rights in them.

3 · What the free app includes

Xolingo is free to download and free to use, with two deliberate limits:

  • you may open a translation and save five new words or phrases per day, counted per local calendar day across all your learning languages. A first lookup reveals the translation and automatically saves the item, using one slot. Reopening vocabulary already saved or mastered does not use another slot, and mastering or deleting an entry does not give one back;
  • the Arcade frequency decks for ranks 1–100 and 101–200 are free; other frequency decks, themed decks, and the deck built from your own word bank need Xolingo Pro.

Reading, highlighting, read-aloud, imports, Word Bank flash cards, progress, and reopening translations already in your Word Bank are free with no time limit. After five new items, opening another new translation and saving it require Pro until the next local calendar day.

The daily allowance is enforced on your device, so a reinstall or a second device receives its own allowance. We may change these limits for future versions; a change never removes access to something you already bought.

4 · Xolingo Pro purchases and billing

What you get

Xolingo Pro removes the daily new-translation-and-saving limit and unlocks every Arcade deck, including the deck generated from your own word bank. One purchase covers every language Xolingo supports on the same store platform and account. Xolingo has no cross-platform account, so an iOS purchase does not unlock Android or vice versa.

Plans, length, and price

PlanLengthRenewsPrice
Pro MonthlyOne monthAutomatically, monthlyUS$6.99 per month; localized store price shown before purchase
Pro YearlyOne yearAutomatically, yearlyUS$69.99 per year; localized store price shown before purchase

Xolingo Pro is sold as these two auto-renewing subscriptions. The US dollar amounts above are the United States storefront price; the exact price in your local currency, including any tax the store adds, is displayed on the store product page and on the purchase screen inside the app before you confirm. Prices differ by country and can change; a change to an existing subscription’s price is handled by the store, which will ask for your agreement where its rules require it.

How billing works

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account when you confirm the purchase.
  • Apple subscriptions: an auto-renewing subscription renews for the same period at the price communicated by Apple unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges the renewal within 24 hours before that period ends.
  • Google Play subscriptions: a recurring subscription renews and is charged at the beginning of each billing cycle unless you cancel before the next renewal date shown in Google Play.
  • Any free trial or introductory offer, if we run one, is described on the purchase screen with its duration, eligibility, conversion price, billing period, and cancellation information.
  • Pro unlocks only once the store confirms payment. A pending purchase stays locked until then; if a payment fails or is refunded, Pro access ends.
  • Apple or Google processes payment. We do not receive or store full payment credentials such as your card number.

Pro Monthly and Pro Yearly sit in the same subscription group and unlock exactly the same features, differing only in billing period. Switching between them is handled by the store as an ordinary upgrade or downgrade, so you are not charged twice and do not need to cancel one before starting the other.

5 · Cancelling and refunds

You can manage or cancel a subscription through the store or the in-app Customer Center. Uninstalling Xolingo does not cancel a subscription. Google Play also gives developers limited order-management tools, so Xolingo support may be able to help with a Google purchase; the store's subscription centre is normally the fastest route.

iOS

Settings → your name → Subscriptions

Pick Xolingo, then Cancel Subscription, or use Apple's subscription page. The in-app Customer Center can route you to store management.

Android

Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions

Open Subscriptions, pick Xolingo, then Cancel subscription, or use Google Play's subscription centre. The in-app Customer Center can route you to store management.

Both

Restore purchases

Settings → Xolingo Pro → Restore purchases recovers Pro after a reinstall, on the same store account.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. Access normally continues to the end of the period you have already paid for, and cancellation alone does not produce a pro-rata refund. Your store's refund rules and any mandatory consumer rights still apply.

Apple purchases: request a refund through reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple decides and processes App Store refund requests under its rules.

Google Play purchases: use Google Play's refund request within 48 hours where eligible. After 48 hours, contact us with the GPA order number. We can review and, where appropriate, process a Google Play refund under our policy and applicable law.

Nothing here limits a statutory cancellation, withdrawal, repair, replacement, or refund right you have under consumer law where you live.

6 · Texts you bring in

Xolingo lets you paste text, import files, and share links into the app. That material stays yours and is stored privately on your device; Xolingo does not re-host it or use it to train a model. Importing a link makes your device contact the source website. If you deliberately send a content report from an imported passage, the report can include the displayed excerpt and related context, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

In return, you are responsible for it. By importing something you confirm that you own it, that it is in the public domain or openly licensed, or that you otherwise have the right to copy it onto your device for private study. Do not import material you have no right to, and do not use Xolingo to build or distribute a library of infringing content.

Xolingo has no learner-content sync or backup service, so we cannot moderate, back up, or restore your imported library. A report you deliberately submit contains only the limited excerpt and context described in the Privacy Policy; it is not a backup of your library. If you delete the app without a usable device backup, your imports are gone.

7 · Acceptable use

Please do not: use Xolingo unlawfully; interfere with or overload the content service; scrape or bulk-download our catalog, dictionaries, or sentence data; probe or bypass the app’s purchase checks; or file content reports in bad faith, as spam, or containing someone else’s personal information.

8 · Our content and third-party sources

Xolingo’s catalog mixes texts written for Xolingo with material from open sources — public-domain works, encyclopaedia articles under Creative Commons licences, openly licensed example sentences, and similar. Each text carries its source and licence, shown in the app; those notices, and the licences they refer to, govern that text and survive these Terms. Settings → Content licenses lists them.

Original Xolingo material and the app itself remain our copyright. Attribution notices must not be removed, and openly licensed material must be reused only under its own licence — not under this one.

9 · No guarantee of accuracy

Xolingo is a learning aid, not a reference work and not a professional translation service. Dictionary entries, example sentences, and machine translations can be wrong, dated, awkward, or occasionally crude — the corpora are crowd-sourced and the fallback translation is machine-made and labelled as such. Do not rely on Xolingo for legal, medical, safety-critical, or professional translation, and please flag bad content so we can fix it.

10 · Availability and changes

Xolingo is designed to keep working offline: bundled courses, dictionaries, and the free decks do not need a connection. The online catalog, downloads, and purchase checks do, and may be unavailable, changed, or discontinued.

We may update the app, add or remove features, and change or retire catalog texts — including for licensing reasons. We may also update these Terms. We will change the effective date and give additional notice when a material change or applicable law requires it. Any consent required for a material change will be requested rather than inferred merely from continued use. If a change materially affects a purchase you already made, we will explain it in the app or release notes.

11 · Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Xolingo is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that it will teach you a language.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and nothing here affects consumer rights that cannot be waived under the law where you live.

12 · Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or lost learning progress, arising out of your use of Xolingo. Where a monetary cap is lawful, our total liability for a claim relating to Xolingo is limited to the total amount you paid for Xolingo.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Xolingo has no server copy of your learner database. A report you deliberately submit may contain the limited excerpt described in the Privacy Policy, but it cannot restore your word bank or learning progress. Keeping your device backed up is your responsibility.

13 · Termination

You end this agreement by deleting Xolingo from your devices. Your licence ends automatically if you materially breach these Terms. Sections 6 through 12 survive termination. Ending the agreement does not by itself cancel a subscription — cancel that with the store, as described in section 5.

14 · Apple App Store terms

For Xolingo obtained from Apple's App Store, Apple's Standard EULA governs the app licence and Apple's Media Services terms govern the store account and purchases. These Terms supplement, and do not replace, those agreements. AxoLottaLove remains responsible for Xolingo, its content, and the support described here.

15 · Google Play terms

For Xolingo obtained from Google Play, this agreement is between you and AxoLottaLove, not Google. Google is not responsible for Xolingo or its content and provides no developer support for it. Your use of Google Play is also governed by the Google Play Terms of Service; purchase, renewal, cancellation, and refund handling follows those terms, applicable law, and section 5 above.

16 · Applicable law and general terms

The law and courts that apply are determined by applicable conflict-of-law and consumer-protection rules. If you are a consumer, these Terms do not deprive you of mandatory protections in your country of residence or a right to bring proceedings there where local law gives you that right.

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
