A1 Spanish readings
These 9 A1 readings run from 147 to 198 words, roughly 1 to 2 minutes each. They cover daily life (4), nature (2), fiction (1), science (1) and travel (1).
A1 is the first CEFR level, where a learner can understand very familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. Xolingo’s A1 Spanish texts stay within that: short sentences, mostly in the present tense, a small set of everyday words, and situations you could meet on an ordinary day.
Two things are worth noticing as you read. Many Spanish words look like English ones, which helps in the first weeks: animal, familia, plaza. But every noun has a gender (el mercado, la plaza), and verbs change their endings with the person speaking (vivo, vive). You do not need to study that first. Seeing it repeated in a story is a gentle way to start noticing it.
Xolingo grades these texts itself, using the CEFR descriptors as a guide. It is not an exam, and reading them does not certify a level. If a text feels too easy, try A2; if it feels hard, read only the first paragraph and come back later.
